4. Aromatic Hydrocarbons
These contain ring structures, such as benzene. They are important in the production of dyes, medicines, and chemicals.
Sources of Hydrocarbons
Most hydrocarbons are obtained from:
Crude oil (petroleum)
Natural gas
Coal
These natural resources are processed in refineries to produce fuels and other useful products.
Importance of Hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbons are essential because they are used as:
Fuels (petrol, diesel, LPG)
Raw materials for plastics
Ingredients in medicines
Materials for synthetic fibers and chemicals
Without hydrocarbons, modern life would be very different.
Environmental Impact
Although hydrocarbons are very useful, burning them releases carbon dioxide and other harmful gases into the atmosphere. These gases contribute to air pollution and climate change. Therefore, scientists are working on cleaner and renewable energy sources.
